Down the Garden Path

There was an orchard
I dreamed of when I was a child
covered with creepers
and flowers that grew so wild.
And as I walked through it
I saw myself change.
A soft breeze pulled me along.
My body grew leaves
and branches for arms –
but my feet led me on.

Down the garden path
Down the garden path
Down the garden path
Down the garden path

Once when I met you,
I thought of that orchard again.
I grew round your body.
My fingers took root in your skin.
Oh, why did you tell me
love sets you free
as my bare feet sank in the lawn?
With each step we took
you saw I was changing
but you still led me on.

Down the garden path
Down the garden path
Down the garden path
Down the garden path
